Rural Hospital Contracts with UW Health for ICU Bedside Monitoring
MADISON - UW Health’s e-Care of Wisconsin will provide an extra set of eyes and ears to Freeport Health Network’s intensive care unit, as part of a partnership announced today.
The program established at University Hospital’s Trauma and Life Support Center in July 2008 staffs intensive care physicians and nurses in a clinical operations center from a remote location to hospitals which seek an extra layer of support for bedside caregivers.
The experienced health care professionals in the command center can monitor patient vital signs and keep an eye on patients with the use of cameras and microphones.
"The service helps recognize potential patient complications both before and immediately while complications develop,” said Dr. Jeff Wells, medical director of e-Care of Wisconsin.
The Freeport Health Network is the first rural healthcare facility to contract for the ICU monitoring services. St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield has partnered with UW Health for e-Care since the fall of 2008.
