Life After Breast Cancer: BRA Day Observance on Oct. 16
Madison, Wisconsin - The word "bra" takes on an entirely new meaning Oct. 16.
BRA Day, or Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access regarding post-mastectomy breast reconstruction and to inspire women to know that life after cancer can be very fulfilling.
As part of BRA Day, surgeons from the UW Health Breast Center and UW Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will host Yoga in the Park on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 9-11am at Garner Park at 333 Rosa Rd. on Madison's west side.
Physicians and staff members will be on site to answer questions about breast reconstruction options. Participants will receive pink yoga mats and light refreshments will be provided. Acoustic guitar music will accompany the yoga instruction.
Yoga will be led by yoga instructor, cancer survivor and breast reconstruction patient Laura Flanagan of Madison. She is developing a yoga program specifically for breast cancer survivors and reconstruction patients. The program will be offered at Satya Yoga on Odana Road as well as Perennial Yoga in Fitchburg.
The second Annual Bra Day is sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Plastic Surgery Foundation.
