Dancing With the Doctor: Transplant Recipient, Surgeon Team Up

Spotlight on Life Gala 2012Madison, Wisconsin - Ten years ago at age 2, Ali Wandschneider received a life-saving liver transplant.

Now she's active and healthy and a hard-working organ donation advocate. In January, Ali and her transplant surgeon, Dr. Tony D'Alessandro, will perform a special dance at the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin's Spotlight on Life Gala.

The gala, a fundraiser for organ, tissue and eye donation, is styled after Dancing with the Stars. It features celebrity dancers (transplant and organ donation professionals) competing for their own version of the mirror ball trophy.

You can learn more about the event, vote for your favorite dancer or make a direct donation at www.spotlightonlife.org. All funds go to donation education and awareness events aimed at filling the Wisconsin Donor Registry.

Check out Ali and Dr. D'Alessandro practicing their dance, which will feature a combination of cha-cha, rumba and salsa.
