UW Health specialists in Mohs/dermatologic surgery provide microsurgical techniques for skin cancers. Developed more than 60 years ago by Frederic Mohs, MD, a University of Wisconsin professor of surgery, Mohs/dermatologic surgery is now recognized as the most accurate method for removing skin cancers.
The Mohs technique offers a high cure rate with minimal loss of surrounding tissue, which often makes it the surgery of choice for the face and other sensitive areas.
Our specialists serve patients with skin cancer, atypical moles or suspicious lesions, biopsy-proven cancers of the skin, recurrent sores that do not heal, a personal or family history of skin cancer or an increased risk for developing skin cancer, such as those patients with a history of several severe sunburns and/or a history of exposure to chemicals such as arsenic or X-ray radiation for acne.
