A. Self-tanners contain an ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone). DHA is the "tanning" ingredient in almost all self-tanners currently on the market. DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead cells, it produces a brown color.
This change usually lasts about 5-7 days from initial application.
