University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and American Family Children's Hospital are now lifting the suspension on teens and college students, but there are certain conditions that must be met prior to returning.

Suspended Volunteers

If you are currently a suspended volunteer, you will be required to provide documentation showing that you have received the H1N1 vaccine. Documentation can be faxed to (890-9385), mailed to our office at 600 Highland Avenue, Room E5/730, Madison, WI 53792-7676, or dropped off in person. You may return to your volunteer role two weeks after receiving the vaccine. Additionally, please make sure that you are up to date with your TB skin test and Safety and Infection Control test.

Vaccine Availability

The H1N1 vaccine has become available to staff and volunteers and will be distributed in a manner similar to our annual TB test and seasonal flu vaccine clinics. Volunteers who are not UW students nor teens can receive the vaccine in Room F8/170-172 here at the hospital (this is the same room where seasonal flu shots and TB skin tests were done).

The H1N1 clinics will be from 7am-5pm on November 2-6. There may be additional clinic times depending on the availability of the vaccine. Please bring your UW Hospital and Clinics or American Family Children's Hospital photo ID with you to the H1N1 clinic. UW students should receive the H1N1 vaccination at University Health Services (UHS) as outlined below. Teens should receive the H1N1 vaccination at their school or primary care office.

If you are a University of Wisconsin student:

As a University of Wisconsin student and volunteer at UW Hospital and Clinics you have been designated as high priority individual for receiving the H1N1 influenza vaccine as defined by guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You may receive your H1N1 influenza vaccine at UHS on a walk-in-basis between 9am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. UHS is located at 333 East Campus Mall. While supplies last, you may also receive your seasonal influenza vaccine during the same visit. Please indicate your affiliation as a UW Hospital and Clinics volunteer, which places you into a priority group and be prepared to provide identification. Remember to bring documentation of your vaccination to Volunteer Services.

If you are a student who completed orientation and were assigned to an inpatient unit, but had not previously volunteered in that role, we will place you in a slot for next semester. Unfortunately, there is not sufficient time left in the semester to ensure that this would be a satisfactory experience for all those involved. Once your class/work schedule for the spring semester is finalized, contact us for placement.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our patients safe. Please contact us by e-mail with any questions. Please understand that we may not respond immediately as we expect a large number of individuals contacting us; allow at least three business days.
