Our Working Mothers - Vicki Hill, UW Health Link

Working Mother awardVicki Hill started working here as a speech pathology manager, 15 years ago and far before she was even thinking of having children. Now as the mother of two boys, Vicki speaks highly of the many mentors she's had throughout her tenure.

"Over the years, they've encouraged me to push forward with my career, while encouraging and supporting me in creating a healthy balance between my family, education and career."

Vicki says she's appreciated the ability to flex her hours, so she could leave early some days to pick up her boys from school or attend some of their other activities.

Vicki was a recipient of our President's Scholarship, a program that each year awards a high-performing UW Hospital and Clinics manager with a full scholarship to pursue an Executive MBA. The scholarship provided Vicki paid time off to attend weekly classes.

Vicki says balancing everything has been difficult, but worth it. Vicki graduated from the Executive MBA program last May and she was recently rewarded with a promotion to direct the implementation of an enterprise-wide electronic health record (Health Link).

Vicki appreciates UW Hospital and Clinics' role in helping her achieve this success.

"Because the leadership of UW Hospital and Clinics has worked so hard to show they care about me as both a person and a mom, I've wanted to provide the same kind of support to my staff."

Vicki does this by encouraging staff to enroll in classes and programs provided by our corporate Academy to further their personal and professional development. She also encourages colleagues to take advantage of UW Hospital and Clinics' employee assistance program with counseling and free referral program to help employees do everything from plan for retirement to find a child or elder care provider.
