Our Working Mothers - Renae Buchheim, UW Hospital and Clinics Marketing

Working Mother awardRenae Buchheim came to the UW Hospital and Clinics marketing and public affairs department in 2000 when her two boys were toddlers. She’s come to appreciate the strong compensation and benefits package.

She says, “UWHC has really remained ahead of the curve when it comes to employee benefits. While other companies across the country have been cutting, our benefits remain very strong.”

Renae realizes that it’s unique to find an employer that offers a comprehensive health, prescription, vision and dental benefit package.

In the days when employer-sponsored pension plans are rare, Renae appreciates UW Hospital and Clinics' commitment to its employees’ future - contributing 10 percent of the value of their salary to their retirement plan.

While UW Hospital and Clinics' compensation and benefits package are what attracted Renae to UWHC, flexible scheduling is among the things that keep her here. Throughout her time at UWHC, she has had three different supervisors.

She says, “Each of them appreciated the challenge of being a working mom, and allowed flexibility to accommodate activities for my family. They’ve always encouraged me to work from home when I have a sick child or when I feel I need a day to focus on a specific project.”

Renae also appreciates the hospital’s commitment to wellness as they subsidize exercise classes leaving her to pay only $1.25 a class. She raves about the convenience of classes offered right before and after work or during her lunch hour, conveniently in buildings close to her work site.
