Dr. McCausland's Bio
Dr. Maureen McCausland is the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer of the 536-bed University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. At UW Hospital and Clinics, Dr. McCausland provides leadership for 1,900 FTEs in the nursing, surgical, respiratory care, clinical nutrition, social work, spiritual care and infection control services. She also provides executive leadership for the oncology and heart and vascular service lines.
Dr. McCausland received her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in community health nursing from Boston College. Her doctor of nursing science in nursing administration is from Boston University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. McCausland was Johnson & Johnson Wharton Fellow and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
She has extensive experience in nurse executive practice. She was Chief Nursing Executive at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Associate Dean for Nursing Practice and Professor of Nursing Administration at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She was also a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
She also served as Vice President for Nursing at the Hanna Pavilion of the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Associate Vice President for Nursing at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital, where she was the principle investigator of the RWJ Foundation Strengthening Hospital Nursing Grant, and Vice President for Nursing at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Dr. McCausland began her career at Boston City Hospital, where she held a variety of positions from staff nurse to director of nursing. While at Boston City Hospital, she was a member of the research team led by Ann Wolbert Burgess, which investigated the impact of rape and sexual abuse on victims.
Dr. McCausland currently services on the CNO Research Council of Health Work Force Solutions, the Executive Advisory Committee on Care Delivery Models at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and on the Nominating Committee of the Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Executives. She is a member of the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing Board of Visitors.
Dr. McCausland's scholarly focus is on the creation of professional practice models and the relationship to patient outcomes, professional nurse satisfaction and interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr. McCausland is the author of numerous articles, book chapters and monographs related to executive practice as well as victimology.
