Central Pharmacy Work Settings

Hours

• Staffed 24 hours per day
• Work schedules are 75 percent day shift and 25 percent evening shift
• Rotating weekends and holidays
• Night rotation required approximately 3-4 shifts per month

UW Hospital and on- and off-site clinics

Area Mission

To ensure accurate and timely purchasing, preparation, and distribution of medications

Service Activities

• Preparation and delivery of intravenous, oral, topical, and special dilution medications
• Restocking of drugs throughout UW Hospital and Clinics

Service Environment

• No direct patient contact
• Areas include: 
  • Sterile Products Area
  • Central Unit Dose
  • Manufacturing
  • Acudose
  • Operating Room Areas
  • Purchasing

Service Demands

• On feet for majority of day
• Light to moderate lifting
• Basic math skills necessary
• Ability to handle high volume workload and meet regular deadlines
• Ability to be self-directed and multi-task effectively
