The Associate Degree New-to-Practice Program at UW Hospital and Clinics is part of UW Hospital's initiative to give nurses an exceptional start to their careers, while working alongside highly skilled professionals, many of whom are leaders in their field.
Our Associate Degree New-to-Practice Program is designed to help you confidently move into practice following graduation from an associate degree program. In this program, you’ll progress through a series of learning and work experiences as you transition into your first professional role. Real-world learning occurs through seminars, case studies and clinical practice while being guided by a preceptor and program coordinator.
This program affords you the essential components to refine and grow your assessment and patient care skills. In this critical step of your professional career, we’ll help you become a successful nurse at the patient’s bedside.
Goals of the Associate Degree New-to-Practice Program
The program emphasizes development of clinical skills for the advanced beginner nurse with a goal of becoming a fully integrated partner within the health-care team. Components of the program include:
- Execute assessment techniques necessary for clinical evaluation of patient progress
- Treatment modalities ensure competence in the performance of clinical
- Understanding care delivery in an academic medical center participate as a member of the health-care team,
- Performance and deliver quality, cost-effective care participate in processes designed to improve organizational
Associate Degree New-to-Practice Program Expectations
As a participant, you will agree to:
- Commit to full-time employment for a minimum of 12 months
- Fulfill obligations of a member of the nursing staff on an assigned clinical service
- Adhere to all institutional guidelines as a member of the nursing staff
- Develop and utilize preceptor relationships
- Participate actively in learning experiences
