Milk

When developing a healthful diet to help manage your diabetes, aim for 2-3 servings of milk per day. One serving provides about 15 grams of carbohydrate.
One Serving Equals
- 1 cup milk (8 fl. oz.)
- 1 cup yogurt (8 oz.)
Use More Often
- Skim or 1% milk
- Powdered skim milk
- Evaporated Skim Milk
- Buttermilk
- Low-fat or non-fat yogurt flavored with NutraSweetTM or plain yogurt
- Sugar-free milk flavorings
Use Less Often
- Whole milk
- 2% milk
- Chocolate milk or milk that has been sweetened and/or flavored
- Malted milk
- Milkshakes
- Sweetened condensed milk (see our lower-carbohydrate recipe substitute for Sweetened Condensed Milk)
- Fruited or yogurt sweetened with sugar, syrup or fructose
