Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Instructions: BAL: Sterile screw cap container
Blood: 9 mL red top or green top tube
Body Fluid: Sterile screw cap container
CSF: Numbered specimen tube from sterile disposable
        lumbar puncture tray
Urine: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Container: Preferred: See collection instructions.

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL

Specimen Processing: Blood:  Centrifuge. Transfer cell-free serum to plastic vial. Refrigerate.

Other specimen types:  Refrigerate.

Unacceptable Criteria: Tissue, sputum, stool, or bone marrow aspirate. Samples in transport media or cyto Thin Prep.

Stability: Refrigerated: 14 days
Frozen: Indefinite


Test Limitations:

Sputolysin and NaOH are both interfering substances.
Cross reactions may occur with  paracoccidioidomycosis,  penicilliosis, aspergillosis, and sporotrichosis.
