|
To detect rearrangements of the FGFR1 gene associated with 8p11 myeloproliferative disorders. Aids in diagnosis of hematologic disorders and for monitoring disease after treatment or bone marrow transplant.

Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

| Collection Instructions: |
|
Blood or bone marrow must be received and processed by WSLH within 24 hours of collection. Specimen must be received in UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) on Monday-Friday only.

Preferred: Green top (with sodium heparin anticoagulant)
|

Preferred: 1-2 mL blood or 0.5-1.0 mL bone marrow

| Specimen Transport: |
|
Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) at room temperature (may transport with coolant during hot, >85° weather).

|
|
| Unacceptable Criteria: |
|
Whole blood that is clotted or frozen. Blood collected in EDTA, sodium-citrate or anticoagulants other than sodium heparin. Plasma and serum are not acceptable.

Interpretation provided with results.

| Test Limitations: |
|
Failure to identify an abnormal clone by FISH does not rule out the presence of other abnormalities in the specimen.
