Specimen Requirements

| Collection Container: |
|
Preferred: Sterile screw cap container with 10% buffered formalin (10:1 ratio, formalin to tissue)

| Specimen Processing: |
|
Biopsy specimens (biopsy types Shave, Punch, Ellipse, Fragment, Excision for Slow Mohs, Mohs Layer/Flat) should be placed in a screw cap container with 10% buffered formalin (10:1 ratio, formalin to tissue). Specimen should be accompanied by a completed UWHC Dermatopathology Specimen Exam form and/or a Health Link Workstation order. Submit all tissue to the laboratory by 7pm Monday through Thursday, or 5pm on Friday.

| Specimen Transport: |
|
Deliver to UWHC Dermatopathology Lab (West Clinic, 451 Junction Road, Room G181- Madison WI, 53717).
|

|
|
|
Interpretation
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Tissue specimens must arrive in UWHC Dermatopathology Lab by 7pm Monday through Thursday, or 5pm Friday, to be prepared for interpretation the following business day.

|
|
| Test Limitations: |
|
Specimens requiring special stains or immunohistochemical staining will have an increased turnaround time.
