The results obtained should be used only as an adjunct to clinical observation with other information available.
Positive test results do not rule out other causes of meningitis including bacteria, mycobacteria, other viruses (eg. herpes family viruses, arbovirus, mumps virus, etc.) and fungi.
Negative test results do not rule out the presence of enterovirus.
Visible red blood cells (RBCs) in the CSF sample can result in an invalid test.
