Methodology: Reverse SSO detected by Luminex xMAP (Multi-Analyte Profiling)

Clinical Significance: HLA-A locus low-to-mid level resolution typing typically used to match donor and recipients for organ transplantation and HLA-matched platelet transfusion.  Also may be used to identify the presence of HLA class I alleles associated with some diseases (e.g. A29 for Birdshot retinochoroidopathy).

Commonly ordered with HLA-B and HLA-C locus for class I HLA typing.

Days Performed: Mon-Fri, dayshift.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Patient Preparation: No transfusions (RBC, WBC, Platelets) within 24 hours prior to collection.

Collection Container: Preferred: Lavender top
Also Acceptable: Yellow top(with ACD-A/B anticoagulant)

Collection Volume: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 2 mL

Sample Analyzed: Whole Blood

Volume Required: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 2 mL

Specimen Processing: Do not centrifuge.

Specimen Transport: Transport whole blood specimen at room temperature or refrigerated to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220).

Stability: Ambient: 7 days
Refrigerated: 3 weeks
Frozen: Not acceptable

A written interpretive report will be provided.
