Methodology: Tandem Mass Spectometry

Clinical Significance: Useful in evaluation of patients suspected of MNGIE disease.

Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

Turnaround Time: Routine: Approximately 2 weeks.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Preferred: Green top (with sodium heparin anticoagulant)

Collection Volume: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 3 mL

Sample Analyzed: Plasma

Volume Required: Preferred: 2 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220).

Outreach Specimen Transport: Transport frozen specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) on dry ice.

Stability: Ambient: Not acceptable
Refrigerated: Not acceptable
Frozen: 7 days


Additional Information:

This test is not useful for Carrier testing since Carriers may have normal levels of Thymidine.
