Test Name: HLA, Hold for Possible Crossmatch

Clinical Significance: This test only serves to collect a red top or result a mailed-in serum specimen as drawn and received by the HLA Laboratory. No testing is performed on the specimen collected without a separate test request.


Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Preferred: Red top
Also Acceptable: Red cap with yellow ring (SST)

Collection Volume: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 2 mL

Sample Analyzed: Serum

Volume Required: Preferred: 2 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) immediately. Refrigeration not necessary but acceptable. Serum separated from the clot can be sent frozen.

Outreach Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) immediately. Refrigeration not necessary but acceptable. Serum separated from the clot can be sent frozen. Shipping by first class mail is acceptable if postal regulations for packaging are followed.

Stability: Ambient: 7 days
Refrigerated: 7 days
Frozen: 2 weeks

The only intent of this order is to collect or document receipt of a specimen from potential organ recipients for potential future HLA crossmatch.
