CPT Code(s): 81206, 81207

Methodology: Reverse-Transcriptase PCR

Clinical Significance: Detection of BCR/ABL fusion transcripts seen in CML and ALL.  Aids in diagnosis of hematologic disorders and for monitoring disease after treatment or bone marrow transplant.

Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

Days Performed: Mon-Fri.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 3 - 5 days.

Collection Container: Preferred: Lavender top

Collection Volume: Preferred: 9 mL blood or 1 mL bone marrow
Pediatrics: 4 mL blood or 1 mL bone marrow

Sample Analyzed: Whole Blood or Bone Marrow

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) at room temperature. Transport with coolant pack during hot weather (> 85F).

Unacceptable Criteria: Sodium heparin is known to inhibit PCR.

Stability: Ambient: 24 hours
Refrigerated: Not acceptable
Frozen: Not acceptable

Report provides interpretation.

Test Limitations:
