Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Stool

Collection Instructions: Collect specimen within 3-5 days of diarrhea onset.

Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: 2 mL
Pediatrics: 2 mL

Sample Analyzed: Stool

Volume Required: Preferred: 0.3 mL
Pediatrics: 0.3 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Microbiology laboratory (B4/231) within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate if delay.

Unacceptable Criteria: Test has not been evaluated for meconium stool.

LIMIT: One specimen every 7 days.

Stability: Ambient: 2 hours
Refrigerated: 72 hours
Frozen: > 72 hours at -80C.

Negative

Test Limitations:

Specimens containing a high amount of blood may give an invalid result. Meconium stool has not been evaluated for this test.
