Test Name: Comparative Genomic Hybridization

Test Code(s): SLH890 / HCSLH890

CPT Code(s): 81229

Methodology: Chip Hybridization

Clinical Significance: Array comparative genomic hybridization analysis is primarily used as an additional test following G-banded karyotyping analysis in which normal results were obtained.  It replaces FISH analysis for subtelomeres and targeted microdeletion/microduplications.

Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 2 - 3 weeks.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Collection Instructions: Testing requires referral screening.  Contact UWHC Test Referral office at (608) 262-6388 prior to sample collection.

This blood must be received and processed by WSLH within 48 hours of collection.  Blood must be received by the UWHC Core Laboratory Monday-Friday only.

Collection Container: Preferred: Green top (with sodium heparin anticoagulant)

Collection Volume: Preferred: 9 mL
Pediatrics: 4 mL

Sample Analyzed: Whole Blood

Volume Required: Preferred: 5 mL
Pediatrics: 2 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) at room temperature (may transport with coolant during hot, >85F weather)

Unacceptable Criteria: Whole blood that is clotted or frozen.  Blood collected in EDTA, sodium-citrate or anticoagulants other than sodium or lithium heparin.  Plasma and serum are not acceptable.

Stability: Ambient: 48 hours
Refrigerated: 48 hours
Frozen: Not acceptable

By report.

Test Limitations:

This assay will not detect balanced cytogenetic alterations, point mutations, uniparental disomy or imbalances less than 100 kb in size. Limits of detectable mosaicism have not been determined.

Additional Information:

Targeted FISH analysis may be required for confirmation of abnormality; there will be no additional charge for the FISH confirmation.
