Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Urine

Collection Instructions: Only random collection is accepted. First morning urine is preferred. No preservative necessary.

Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: 5 - 10 mL
Pediatrics: 1 - 2 mL

Sample Analyzed: Urine aliquot

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) immediately.  Specimen must arrive in the Core Lab within 30 minutes of collection. If transport is delayed, freeze specimen.

Outreach Specimen Transport: Transport frozen urine to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) on dry ice.

Stability: Ambient: Not acceptable
Refrigerated: 24 hours
Frozen: 1 month


Interpretation provided with results.  Submit clinical history and information pertaining to recent medications/therapy to assure appropriate interpretation of results.
