A renal technologist attends the biopsy procedure to determine the adequacy of the specimen. Procedures are performed Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. The service or unit performing the procedure is required to notify the UWHC Surgical Pathology Lab, (608)263-8453, or the UWHC Renal Lab, (608)263-8442, that a biopsy is scheduled. The renal laboratory should be notified 24 hours in advance of all scheduled kidney biopsies.
Note: The on-call resident/staff pathologist should be notified if a biopsy is to be performed on a weekend or holiday. The pathologist will coordinate with the appropriate staff to assure proper processing.
