Specimen Requirements

Collection Instructions: Prior to collection obtain Royal Blue top tube with EDTA anticoagulant from UWHC Client Services (B4/220), 608.263.7060.  Tubes will be marked with purple tape to help differentiate between the royal blue top tubes with no additive. Acceptable for pediatric patients: draw 1 mL lavender microtainer. Min= 0.3 mL. Elevated results may be due to skin or collection-related contamination, including use of a noncertified lead-free tube. Elevated levels of blood lead should be confirmed with a second specimen collected in a lead-free tube.


Interpretation

Test Limitations:

This test is for venous collection only. For specimens obtained using skin puncture (capillary) technique refer to Lead, Blood Capillary (PBCAP)
