Specimen Processing: Centrifuge.  Separate plasma from cells and freeze immediately.

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220). Transport frozen if coming from outreach location.

Interpretation

Reference Interval:

Age 0 days and up:  7 - 45 pg/mL

 

Reference interval established for 8-10 AM collection. No established reference interval for PM collection.

Test Limitations:

Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with the immunoglobulins included in the assay components causing interference with in vitro immunoassays. Samples from patients routinely exposed to animals or animal serum products can demonstrate this type of interference potentially causing an anomalous result.
