Antibody status to HIV-2. This test is part of the confirmatory testing performed on reactive specimens for HIV-1/2 Ab.
Screening of a patient with epidemiologic risk factors for HIV-2. Such factors include:
- persons from countries in which HIV-2 is endemic
- sexual partners of such persons
- persons who have received a blood transfusion or
nonsterile injection in an HIV-2 endemic country
- persons who have shared needles with a person
known to be HIV-2 infected
- children of women who have risk factors for HIV-2
infection or who are known to be infected with HIV-2
- patients with an illness suggestive of HIV infection
in which HIV-1 testing is negative or inconclusive.
