Test Name: BCR-ABL Quantitative Analysis

Methodology: PCR

Clinical Significance: This test should only be ordered on patients previously tested at the Blood Center of Wisconsin (BCW). For new diagnosis see BCR/ABL1 PCR, Diagnostic [HCBCRDIAG] or BCR/ABL1 PCR, Monitoring [HCBCRMON].

Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory.

Days Performed: Mon-Fri.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 - 7 days.


Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Collection Instructions: Can be drawn Monday - Friday only (must be in UWHC CSC Lab before 1200H on Friday). Please call Client Services at 263-7060 for collection instructions for any day preceding a holiday.

Testing requires referral screening.  Referral Screening Flow Sheet may be printed from UConnect or see link in Additional Information. Contact UWHC Test Referral office at (608)262-6388 prior to collection.

Collection Container: Preferred: 3 Lavender top tubes

Collection Volume: Preferred: 10 mL blood or 5 mL bone marrow

Sample Analyzed: Whole Blood or Bone Marrow

Volume Required: Preferred: 10 mL blood or 5 mL bone marrow
Pediatrics: 4 mL blood or 1 mL bone marrow

Specimen Processing: Samples must be received at testing laboratory within 48 hours of collection due to lability of RNA. Store at room temperature.

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to laboratory immediately.  

Stability: Ambient: 48 hours
Refrigerated: Not acceptable
Frozen: Not acceptable

Report provides interpretation.
