Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Preferred: Green top (with sodium heparin anticoagulant)
Also Acceptable: Green top (with lithium heparin anticoagulant), Red top

Collection Volume: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 3 mL

Sample Analyzed: Plasma

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 0.5 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) immediately.  Specimen must arrive in the Core Lab within 30 minutes of collection.

Outreach Specimen Transport: Transport frozen plasma to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) on dry ice.

Stability: Ambient: Not acceptable
Refrigerated: 24 hours
Frozen: 1 month


Interpretation

Interpretation provided with results.  Submit clinical history and information pertaining to recent medications/therapy to assure appropriate interpretation of results.
