Obtain Pertussis collection kit from UWHC Core Lab, (608)263-7060.
Collect nasopharyngeal swabs or aspirates. Follow collection instructions that come with kit. Kit will contain swabs, Regan-Lowe medium for culture and sterile tube for PCR testing.

| Test Limitations: |
|
This test is not FDA approved and test results must be correlated with patient history to confirm as a case of B. pertussis or B. parapertussis.

| Additional Information: |
|
This test detects the presence of an insertion sequence, IS481. This sequence is also known to be present in Bordetella holmesii, an uncommon respiratory pathogen of humans.
