Methodology: Flow Cytometry

Clinical Significance: For determining CD34 level of apheresis collection

Days Performed: Mon-Fri, dayshift.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 1 working day.


Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Apheresis Product

Collection Instructions: Place apheresis product (that is ACD anticoagulated during the apheresis procedure) into a tube containing no anticoagulants. Note: Do not place specimen in a red top tube. Red top tubes contain clot activators.

An order for a WBC must accompany request.

Collection Container: Preferred: See collection instructions.

Collection Volume: Preferred: 2.5 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Sample Analyzed: Apheresis Product

Volume Required: Preferred: 2.5 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Specimen Processing: Keep specimen at room temperature. Do NOT centrifuge tube.

Specimen Transport: Transport unopened tube at room temperature to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) within 16 hours of collection.

Unacceptable Criteria: Hemolyzed, clotted, frozen or overheated specimens are not acceptable. Samples greater than 24 hours old at time of analysis are not acceptable.

Stability: Ambient: 16 hours
Refrigerated: Not acceptable
Frozen: Not acceptable

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the UWHC Clinical Laboratories. This test meets the standards for clinical testing. This test should not be regarded as investigational or for research use. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved or cleared this test; however, the FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary.
