Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Preferred: Lavender top

Collection Volume: Preferred: 4 mL
Pediatrics: 0.5 mL

Sample Analyzed: Stained peripheral blood coverslip

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 0.5 mL

Specimen Processing: Keep specimen at room temperature.

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen at room temperature to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220) within 2 hours of collection.

Unacceptable Criteria: Hemolyzed or clotted specimens are not acceptable.

Stability: Ambient: 2 hours
Refrigerated: Not acceptable
Frozen: Not acceptable


Interpretation

A hematopathologist's written interpretive report is issued as a separate report.
