Specimen Requirements

Specimen: 72 hour timed stool

Patient Preparation: Obtain pre-weighed, pre-labeled can from UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220), 263-7060.

Collection Instructions: Collect 72 hour stool. Refrigerate during collection period.
Specimen container label MUST state date and time collection started and date and time collection finished.

Collection Container: Preferred: Pre-weighed, pre-labeled stool collection container

Collection Volume: Preferred: Entire collection
Pediatrics: Entire collection

Sample Analyzed: Stool

Specimen Transport: Transport entire specimen to laboratory at close of collection. Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.

Unacceptable Criteria: Samples with less than a 24 hour collection period, a random collection (single bowel movement/collection period), inadequate amount of specimen, incomplete information about collection period, contamination by foreign objects, diaper collection or incorrect collection container are not acceptable.

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the UWHC Clinical Laboratories.  This test meets the standards for clinical testing.  This test should not be regarded as investigational or for research use.  The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved or cleared this test; however, the FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary.
