Specimen: Random urine

Collection Instructions: Collect random urine. No preservative required.

Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: 10 mL
Pediatrics: 1 mL

Sample Analyzed: Urine aliquot

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 0.4 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220). Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.

Stability: Refrigerated: 5 days


Interpretation

Interpretive Guidelines:

Results are reported in mg/dL.

 

A protein/creatinine ratio will be calculated whenever a spot urine protein and random urine creatinine are ordered together. 

 

 

 Protein/Creatinine Reference Interval: 

 0 days - 24 months:  0.00 - 0.50
 25 months and up:  0.00 - 0.15
