Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Random urine

Collection Instructions: Random urine collection accepted.  No preservative necessary.

Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: Entire collection
Pediatrics: Entire collection

Sample Analyzed: Urine aliquot

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 0.2 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport entire specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220).  Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.


Random urines reported in mg/dL.


Reference ranges only available on urines with a collect time of 22-26 hours.

Additional Information:

The urine calcium result is increased by a maximum of 0.1 mg/dL for each 1.0 mg/dL of magnesium in the urine specimen.
