Pediatrics: 1.5 mL

Sample Analyzed: Whole Blood

Volume Required: Preferred: 1 mL
Pediatrics: 0.5 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Transfusion Services(C7/381). Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.

Stability: Ambient: Not acceptable
Refrigerated: 10 days
Frozen: Not acceptable

Additional Information:

This is a screening test for Hemoglobin S. The methodology used for this test should not be considered conclusive for the diagnosis of sickle-cell anemia or sickle-cell trait. Confirmation with other methodologies such as electrophoresis is always advisable.
