Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Urine

Collection Instructions: First morning void preferred. Refrigerate if transportation to lab is delayed.  Indicate whether specimen is midstream, indwelling catheter, single catheter or other method of collection. Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: 10 mL
Pediatrics: 3 mL

Sample Analyzed: Urine aliquot

Volume Required: Preferred: 10 mL
Pediatrics: 3 mL

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to laboratory immediately. Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.

Unacceptable Criteria: Samples held at room temperature for more than 2 hours or samples refrigerated for more than 24 hours are not acceptable.

Stability: Ambient: 2 hours
Refrigerated: 24 hours
Frozen: Not acceptable
