CPT Code(s): 80101 x6

Test Description: Test Component:

Amphetamines/Methamphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepine, Cocaine, Opiates (primarily targets morphine, codeine, and heroin), and Phencylidine (PCP).

Methodology: Enzyme Immunoassay

Clinical Significance: If a more comprehensive result is required, the Urine Comprehensive Drug Screen should be ordered.

Days Performed: Daily, 24 hours.

Turnaround Time: Stat: 1 hour. All requests processed stat.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen: Random urine

Collection Instructions: If confirmation by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is requested on a specimen with a "screen positive" result, 10 mL of urine is needed for the confirmatory analysis.

Collection Container: Preferred: Sterile screw cap container

Collection Volume: Preferred: 25 mL
Pediatrics: 10 mL

Sample Analyzed: Urine aliquot

Volume Required: Preferred: 2 mL
Pediatrics: 0.5 mL

Specimen Processing: Refrigerate specimen.

Specimen Transport: Transport specimen to UWHC Core Laboratory (B4/220). Transport with coolant pack if coming from outreach location.

Stability: Refrigerated: Up to 24 hours.
Frozen: okay

Interpretation

Expected Results:

Qualitative screening test. Results will be reported as "not detected" or " screen positive".

Test Limitations:

These are screening tests. Results are to be used for medical purposes only.

Additional Information:

If screening test is reported as "screen positive", confirmation and identification can be made (at additional charge) by gas chromatography - mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. See individual listings for more information on confirmatory testing. The following is a list of cut-off values that are used to determine if the test is "screen positive":

Amphetamines/ Methamphetamines 500 ng/mL
Barbiturates 200 ng/mL
Benzodiazepine 200 ng/mL
Cocaine (Metabolites) 300 ng/mL
Opiates 300 ng/mL
Phencylidine (PCP) 25 ng/mL
