National SAFE KIDS Week: Splash Into Safety

boy swimmingIn 2006, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign teamed with Johnson and Johnson to deem May 1-8 National SAFE KIDS Week.

"Splash Into Safety" was the theme, with water safety and drowning prevention the focal point of the organization's efforts.

Drowning Prevention

Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under the age of 14, and solid safety information is the best way to prevent a tragedy. Select the link below to download drowning prevention and safety tips, courtesy of the Madison Area SAFE KIDS Coalition.

Splash Into Safety Quizzes

Select the links below and take the National SAFE KIDS water safety quizzes. Both quizzes - one for kids and one for adults - are available in PDF format, and you can download and save them by right-mouse clicking on the links and selecting Save As.

Water Watcher Badges

The Water Watcher badge reminds adults to keep focused on children at the beach or pool. While wearing this badge, that person takes responsibility to see that the swimming area remains safe and every child is accounted for at all times. Be prepared! Assign an adult to wear the Water Watcher badge at all times near water.

To receive your free Water Watcher tag, contact Madison's SAFE KIDS Coalition at (608) 265-0738. Supplies are limited.
