The Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program is a year-long series of learning and work experiences designed to support baccalaureate graduate nurses as they transition into their first professional position in a UW Hospital and Clinics acute care setting.
Curriculum
- Leadership: Resource management, managing delivery of care, communication, conflict resolution, organization of shift report
- Patient Outcomes: Managing the changing patient condition, pain management, fall prevention, infection control, patient/family education, skin care
- Professional Management: Stress management and self-care, diversity, end-of-life care, ethics, evidence-based practice, professional development
Program Highlights
- Monthly seminars with clinical experts and small group time to reflect on practice
- Off-unit learning experiences: shadow experiences designed to understand the patient's total clinical experience
- Evidence-based projects to change or validate clinical practice
- Outcome instruments are completed on hire, at 6 months and at 12 months and show a significant increase in the ability to organize and prioritize care as well as a significant decrease in the amount of stress from hire to 12 months in the program
Expectations
As a participant in the program, you will agree to:
- Commit to full-time employment with UW Hospital and Clincis for a minimum of one year
- Adhere to all institutional guidelines as a member of the professional nursing staff
- Participate actively in learning experiences
