How many hours will I be expected to work each week?
Most interns spend approximately 40 hours per week in rotations, meetings and staff relief. Various projects and assignments will be allocated during each rotation that will require additional work at home.
Do I have to work on weekends and holidays?
Interns are required to work five weekends in the clinical areas and two weekends in the management areas during the internship. However, you will receive a day off during the week to compensate for this time. For example, you would receive one day off the week before and one day off the week after the weekend you work. Interns are also required to work most holidays.
How can I arrange a visit to UW Hospital and Clinics?
If you would like to visit the UW Hospital and Clinics to determine if it is what you are looking for in a dietetic internship, please contact our internship director, Marge Morgan. She can arrange an appointment and tour.

Is there a dress code?
While you are in your clinical rotations, you are expected to dress professionally. Shorts, jeans and sleeveless tops are not permitted. During your food service rotations, you are allowed to wear tennis shoes although they should not be cloth and should be sturdy enough to prevent injury.
Are there any additional items not previously listed that I may wish to purchase?
Although not required, many interns find it helpful to purchase a small binder or notebook and a calendar to carry with them as they work. You can use it to jot down any notes, calculations, etc. You may also wish to purchase a pocket folder for storing handouts and brochures. It is necessary to have a basic calculator as well.
