Thank you for your interest in the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Dietetic Internship. UW Hospital and Clinics is an acute care teaching institution, nationally recognized in many areas of medical care. Within this environment, dietetic interns apply their academic training, furthering their competency in:
  • Clinical nutrition
  • Food service administration
  • Research
  • Community experiences
  • Long-term care consultation
Our Dietetic Internship Program has provided interns with academic excellence in a clinical setting since 1953. We are very proud of our graduates. Over the past five years, 89 percent of our graduates have passed the registration exam on their first attempt. Additionally, many of our graduates have completed advanced degrees.

The Dietetic Internship program has a nutrition therapy emphasis. This 48-week program includes eight weeks of community experiences, 14 weeks of management experiences and 24 weeks of clinical experiences. Interns are in rotation a minimum of 32 hours per week. Up to eight additional hours per week are provided as didactic class work and group or individual learning activities. Interns complete the scheduled supervised practice experiences full-time.

As a dietetic intern, you will acquire the skills necessary to pursue a variety of career opportunities available in nutrition. We have a comprehensive program in which dietetic interns are actively involved in the dynamics of the Food Service and Clinical Nutrition Services departments. Your learning experiences will be enhanced by graduate study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and many hospital-based clinical and administrative classes.
