Community Pharmacy Practice Residency
The Community Pharmacy Practice Residency program provides residents with extensive experience in an advanced clinical practice setting with opportunities to conceptualize, integrate and transform accumulated experiences and knowledge into skill, competence and confidence in providing patient care.
The Community Pharmacy Practice Residency program focus will be on the creation and advancement of self-sustaining, pharmacist-driven pharmaceutical care initiatives. Residents receive training in several different areas, including:
- Anticoagulation
- Diabetes and endocrine
- Pulmonary
- HIV
- Oncology
- Solid organ transplantation
- Pharmacy management
- Human relations
- Pharmacy administration
- Managed care
- Drug information and drug policy development
- Medication safety
- Advancement of pharmacy practice
Residents are involved in education of University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy students in pharmacotherapy laboratory and clinical settings and present research, quality improvement and pharmacy advanced initiative projects at local, regional, and national meetings.
The opportunity exists for the community pharmacy resident's experience to be tailored in order to facilitate further advanced opportunities focusing on pharmaceutical care program development, education and/or management at UW Hospital and Clinics.
