UW Health's Shannon Dean talks about hospital medicine.

UW Health hospital medicine physicians - also known as hospitalists - are physicians based at UW Hospital and Clinics who take care of patients admitted from a primary care physician referral.

 

Hospital medicine physicians are integral components to patients' overall care plan, and meet frequently with the specialty physicians and other members of the health care team to discuss the best courses of treatment.

 

After patients are discharged from the hospital, hospital medicine physicians report back to primary care physicians regarding treatment and any need for follow-up care.
