UW Health Heart and Vascular Care's pulmonary rehabilitation program helps people with lung disease management skills and improving their physical functioning. Patients learn how to manage shortness of breath and increase activity tolerance, and receive one-on-one, personalized education.
Services
Our comprehensive sessions include:
- An individualized exercise program, with oxygen levels, heart rates and blood pressure monitored to ensure safety
- Education about lung disease, medications and respiratory equipment
- Instruction on breathing techniques and other ways to manage respiratory symptoms
- Smoking cessation, nutritional counseling and health psychology services
Patients who may benefit from our services include those with:
- Asthma (chronic)
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Emphysema (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - COPD)
- Lung Cancer
- Lung Disease (chronic)
- Lung Transplant patients (pre- and post-procedure)
- Pulmonary Fibrosis
Appointments/Referrals
Referral from a primary care or specialty physician is required for program enrollees. Initially we will schedule three or four individual education and assessment visits that last 90 minutes.
