University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics physicians, nurses and exercise physiologists comprise our inpatient cardiac rehabilitation program staff, which provides instruction on how to alter your lifestyle after a heart event such as stroke or heart attack. We work with patients who have been admitted to UW Hospital through the cardiovascular medicine, cardiothoracic surgery and heart/lung transplant units.Our treatment regimen is particularly helpful for patients who have undergone any of the following conditions or treatments:
- Coronary artery bypass
- Valve surgeries
- Heart or lung transplantation
- Heart attack
- Congestive heart failure
- Heart catheterization
- Balloon angioplasty or stenting
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Ventricular assist devices (VADs)
Our Services
We offer these and additional services to our patients:
- Monitored inpatient activity and exercise testing, including exercise prescriptions
- Coronary artery disease risk factor education
- Assistance with referring discharged patients to outpatient cardiac rehabilitation programs near their homes
Appointments
The inpatient cardiac rehabiliation program is located in room D4/531 of UW Hospital. Patients admitted to the hospital for heart-related or vascular-related illnesses or procedures are automatically set up to receive our services. A cardiac rehabilitation staff member will contact patients directly to discuss rehabilitation plans. For further information, please call (608) 263-6630.
