Caring for Yourself After Cardiac Catheterization - Spanish HF#6121

Arteria Femoral o Dispositivo de Cierre de la Arteria Femoral Cuidados Posteriores

Su cateterismo cardíaco del día ___________________________ se realizó a través de la arteria femoral DERECHA (RIGHT) / IZQUIERDA (LEFT).

Dada de alta

Debe haber alguien disponible para llevarle a casa. No debe manejar en absoluto hasta al menos 24 horas después del procedimiento. Si se usó medicamentos para ayudarle a relajarse durante el procedimiento, no debería tomar ninguna decisión personal o de trabajo importante hasta el día siguiente
Hoy descanse tranquilamente.

Cuidados de la incisión

Podrá ducharse 24 horas después del procedimiento. Quítese la venda que tiene sobre el área antes de ducharse.
Durante los próximos 3 días:
- Limpie cuidadosamente el área con jabón y agua mientras se ducha. Seque cuidadosamente el área. No frote el área.
- Puede aplicar un ungüento antibacterial (p. ej. Neosporin®). No use lociones ni polvos en el área.
- Cubra el área con una curita o un vendaje. Asegúrese de cubrir el área completa. Una curita cuadrada le vendrá bien.
- Mantenga el área limpia y seca para prevenir infección. Si se moja la curita o el vendaje, quíteselo/a y póngase uno nuevo/a.
- Inspeccione el área todos los días para comprobar si tiene enrojecimiento, inflamación, o drenaje/supuración.

Actividades

No levante más de10 libras durante 1 semana o hasta que la herida haya cicatrizado.
No realice actividades vigorosas ni haga mucho esfuerzo durante 1 semana, como montar en bicicleta o hacer abdominales. Durante esta semana es preferible que camine sobre una superficie plana para hacer ejercicio.
No tome baños en la tina, el jacuzzi, ni vaya a nadar durante 1 semana o hasta que el área haya cicatrizado completamente.

Qué esperar

Dolor o sensibilidad en el área que puede durar 1 semana.
La mayoría de las áreas del procedimiento no supuran sangre. Es posible que el área supure un poco de sangre pero no debería empapar más de dos vendajes.
Formación de moretón en el área que puede tardar de 2 a 3 semanas en desaparecer.
Un pequeño bulto (del tamaño de una moneda de diez centavos a una de veinticinco centavos) que puede tener durante un máximo de 6 semanas.

Qué hacer si tiene dolor leve

Puede tomar acetaminofén (Tylenol®) – pastillas de 325 mg cada 4-6 horas.
Puede aplicar un paquete de hielo o un paquete de calor sobre el área durante 20 minutos cada 2 horas. Seque cuidadosamente el área si está mojada después de remover el paquete.

Cuándo y a dónde debe llamar para pedir ayuda

Si se produce sangrado o inflamación repentinos en el área, aplique presión directamente. Si el sangrado no se detiene después de aplicar presión constante durante 10 minutos, llame al 911 para pedir ayuda. Siga poniendo presión sobre el área hasta que reciba ayuda.
Llame al 911 para pedir asistencia de emergencia si la pierna se entumece, o si se pone fría o morada.

Llame a su doctor inmediatamente si nota

Alguna señal de infección que incluya:
- Enrojecimiento, inflamación, o drenaje en el área.
- Dolor prolongado.
- Fiebre superior a 100.4°F en dos lecturas tomadas con unas horas de diferencia.
Dolor severo.

A. Medicamentos

Siga tomando sus medicamentos actuales tal como se los han recetado. Informe a su doctor sobre cualquier efecto secundario que tenga. No deje de tomar ningún medicamento sin antes hablar con su doctor.

Si le colocaron un stent, debe tomar Plavix®(Clopidogrel), Effient®(prasugrel) o Brilinta®(ticagrelor) durante un tiempo señalado. Antes de irse a casa, asegúrese de tener una receta para uno de estos medicamentos. Si no puede pagar el costo de este medicamento, informe a su enfermera o farmacéutico.

Going Home

Have someone drive you home. You should not drive at all until at least 24 hours after your procedure.
Rest quietly today.

Care of the Incision

You may shower 24 hours after your procedure. Remove the bandage over the site before you take a shower.
For the next 3 days:
- Gently clean the site using soap and water while in the shower. Gently dry the site. Do not rub the site.
- You may apply an antibacterial ointment (i.e. Neosporin®). Do not use lotions or powders in the area.
- Cover the site with a band-aid or dressing. Make sure to cover the entire area. A square band-aid works well.
- Keep the site clean and dry to prevent infection. If the band-aid or dressing becomes wet, remove it and replace it with a new one.
- Inspect the site daily for redness, swelling, or drainage.

Activities

Do not lift more than 10 pounds for 1 week or until the wound has healed.
No vigorous activity or straining for 1 week like riding a bicycle or doing sit-ups. Walking on a flat surface for exercise is preferred during this first week.
Do not sit in a bathtub, hot tub, or go into a swimming pool for 1 week or until the site is completely healed.

What to Expect

Soreness or tenderness at the site that may last 1 week.
Most procedure sites do not ooze blood. Mild oozing of blood from the site may be present but should not soak more than two dressing changes.
Bruising at the site that may take 2-3 weeks to go away.
A small lump (dime to quarter size) which may last up to 6 weeks.

What to Do for Minor Pain

You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol®) 325mg tablets every 4-6 hours.
You may place an ice pack or warm pack over the site for 20 minutes every 2 hours. Gently wipe the site after you remove the pack if it is wet.

When and How to Call for Help

If bleeding or sudden swelling should occur at the site. Apply direct pressure. If the bleeding does not stop after 10 minutes of placing constant pressure on the site, call 911 for help. Keep pressing until you get help.
If your leg becomes numb, cold, or turns blue, call 911 for emergency help.

Call your doctor right away if you notice

Any signs of infection including:
- Redness, swelling, or drainage at the site.
- Prolonged pain.
- Fever over 100.4°F for two readings taken a few hours apart.
- Severe pain.

You may return to work on ___________________________________________________.

A. Medicines

Continue to take your present medicines as prescribed. Tell your doctor of any side effects. Do not stop taking any medicine without talking to your doctor first.

If you had a stent placed, you must take Plavix®(Clopidogrel), Effient®(prasugrel) or Brilinta®(ticagrelor) for a prescribed time. Before you go home, make sure you have a prescription for one of these medicines. If you are not able to pay for this medicine, tell your nurse or pharmacist.
