Cuidados en casa después de una vulvectomía
 

Usted debe seguir instrucciones estrictas de dada de alta después de su vulvectomía.  Además, una parte vital para la buena cicatrización es el cuidado de su área quirúrgica y estar pendiente de si hay algún problema.

 

Cuidados de su área quirúrgica

 

Cada vez que orine o que defeque/haga del baño, debe enjuagar esta área muy bien con agua tibia.  Use la botella de chorro o haga asientos en la tina.  Usted necesita secar cuidadosamente el área dándose palmaditas con una toalla suave para prevenir la irritación de la piel.  Entonces, seque esta área muy bien usando un secador de cabello.  Le sugerimos que use el secador del cabello durante al menos 5-10 minutos en el nivel de aire fresco.  Esto es más sencillo si lo hace mientras está acostada en la cama. 

 

Qué esperar después de la cirugía

 

•   Estará en el hospital durante 4 a 7 días.
• Es posible que sienta dolor o sensibilidad en el área de la cirugía.
• Puede tener cierto flujo ligero manchado de sangre durante 1-2 semanas.
• Si tiene grapas en la ingle, éstas serán removidas en 12-14 días durante su cita de seguimiento en la clínica.
• Si tiene sondas de drenaje colocadas, puede limpiar el área diariamente con jabón suave y agua para prevenir cualquier infección.  La mayoría de las sondas de drenaje se extraen antes de irse a casa.  Si usted se va a casa con sondas de drenaje colocadas, su enfermera le enseñara los cuidados de las mismas y cómo medir el drenaje/la supuración todos los días.
• Puede tener cierta inflamación en el área quirúrgica.
• Se irá a casa con puntos de sutura.  Se disolverán lentamente a lo largo del tiempo.
• Es posible que experimente un cambio en la dirección del chorro de orina o es posible que salga de una forma distinta a antes. En la mayoría de los casos, le será útil sentarse más para atrás en el retrete/inodoro.

 

Cuándo debe llamar al doctor

• Si tiene fiebre de 100.4  F o más en 2 lecturas tomadas con 4 horas de diferencia.
• Si tiene inflamación en la ingle.
• Si tiene dolor o sensibilidad que no se alivia con Tylenol , Advil , o el medicamento recetado para el dolor.
• Si su incisión se abre o se irrita.
• Si las incisiones de la ingle se ponen rojas o están calientes al tacto.
• Si tiene drenaje/supuración con mal olor.

You must follow strict discharge instructions after your vulvectomy.  Taking care of your surgical site and watching for problems are a vital part in healing well.

 

Care of your surgical site

 

Each time you urinate or have a bowel movement, you must rinse this area very well with warm water.  Use the squirt bottle or sitz bath you were given.  You need to gently pat dry with a soft towel to prevent any skin breakdown.  Then, dry this area very well using a blow dryer.  We suggest using a hair dryer for at least 5-10 minutes on the cool setting.  This is simpler to do if you are lying down in bed. 

 

What to expect after surgery

 

• You will be in the hospital for 4 to 7 days.
• You may feel pain or soreness at the surgical site.
• You may have some light blood-tinged drainage for 1-2 weeks.
• If you have staples in your groin, these will be removed in 12-14 days at your return clinic visit.
• If you had drains placed you may clean the drain sites with mild soap and water daily to prevent any infection.  Most drains will be taken out before you go home.  If you go home with drains, your nurse will teach you how to care for the drains and how to measure the drainage daily.
• You may have some mild swelling at the surgical site.
• You will go home with stitches in.  They will dissolve slowly over time.
• You may have a change in the direction of your urine stream or it may spray in a way it didn't before.  Most often, it will help if you sit further back on the toilet.
  

When to call the doctor

 

• If you have a fever of 100.4  F or higher for 2 readings taken 4 hours apart
• If you have swelling in your groin
• If you have pain or soreness that is not relieved by Tylenol , Advil , or the prescription pain medicine
• If your incision pulls apart or breaks down
• If your groin incisions become red or warm to the touch
• If you have foul-smelling drainage
