Dysphagia: Menu Choices for Thickened Liquids At University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics HF#472

Your doctor and speech pathologist have found that it is safer for you to have liquids thickened before you drink them.  This helps the fluids go down a little more slowly, giving you more control.  This should prevent fluids from going into your lungs or causing you to cough.
