Si tiene preguntas o preocupaciones sobre sus cuidados, por favor llame al Centro de Especialización del Seno al (608) 266-6400, de lunes a viernes, de 8:30 a.m. a 4:30 p.m.  Después de las horas regulares y durante el fin de semana, este número será respondido por el operador de pagers.  Pregunte por el radiólogo que está de guardia.  Si vive fuera del área, puede llamar al 1-800-323-8942.

 

 Si tomó un medicamento para la ansiedad antes de este procedimiento,  NO maneje durante 6 horas.  NO tome  alcohol, relajantes musculares ni medicamentos que alteren el estado de ánimo durante 24 horas.


1. Resultados:  Los resultados de su biopsia deberían estar listos dentro de un período de 3 a 4 días laborales.  Su doctor o el personal del Centro de Especialización del Seno le llamará por teléfono para hablar sobre los resultados.

 

2. Cuidados del área:

  • Coloque hielo sobre el área durante 20-30 minutos, al menos 3 veces el día de la biopsia, y después cuando sea necesario.  Esto ayudará a reducir la inflamación y el dolor.
  • Se recomienda que utilice un brasier (sostén) que proporcione soporte durante 24-48 horas.  Los brasieres deportivos u otros brasieres cómodos funcionan bien.
  • Le colocarán un vendaje de gasa sobre el área de la biopsia para su protección.  Puede quitarse la gasa el día después de su procedimiento.  Las cintas adhesivas finas o steri-strips colocadas sobre el área de la biopsia se soltarán y caerán por sí solas en aproximadamente una semana.  Si aún las tiene colocadas después de una semana, puede despegarlas cuidadosamente.
  • Puede ducharse a la mañana siguiente.  No se sumerja en la tina ni en la alberca (piscina) durante 48 horas. 

3. Signos de infección: Si se produce alguno de estos síntomas, llame al Centro de Especialización del seno o a su doctor.

  • Temperatura de más de 100.4  F tomada 2 veces con 4 horas de diferencia
  • Inflamación, firmeza, o calor significativos
  • Aumento del enrojecimiento
  • Pus alrededor de la incisión
  • Sangrado abundante que sale de la incisión


4. Comodidad: Es posible que tenga cierta molestia y moretones.  Deberían desaparecer en aproximadamente una semana.  Si necesita algo para las molestias, tome Tylenol .durante las primeras 24 horas, si no tiene problemas en el hígado.  Puede volver a tomar aspirina o Ibuprofeno 24 horas después de la biopsia (si no hay señales de sangrado) o según las indicaciones de su doctor.

 

5. Actividad: Evite realizar movimientos vigorosos con los brazos y levantar cosas pesadas durante las primeras 24 horas.  Puede volver a realizar su rutina normal al día siguiente o según las indicaciones de su doctor.

 

6. Anticoagulantes: Si toma Coumadin®, aspirina, u otro anticoagulante, puede volver a tomarlo 24 horas después de la biopsia (si no hay señales de sangrado) o según las indicaciones de su doctor.


 

 

 

 

After Care for Breast Core Biopsy

If you have questions or concerns about your care, please call the Breast Center at (608) 266-6400, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  After hours and weekends, this number will be answered by the paging operator.  Ask for the radiologist on call.  If you live out of the area, you may call 1-800-323-8942.

 

 If you took an anti-anxiety medicine before this procedure, do NOT drive for 6 hours.  Do NOT drink alcohol, take muscle relaxants or mood-altering medicines for 24 hours.

 

1. Results:  Your biopsy results should be ready in 3-4 working days.  Your doctor or the Breast Center staff will call you to discuss your results. 

 

2. Care of the site

  • Apply ice to the area for 20-30 minutes, at least 3 times the day of the biopsy and then as needed.  This will help to reduce swelling and pain.
  • It is recommended that you wear a supportive bra for 24-48 hours.  A sports bra or other comfortable bra works well.
  • A gauze bandage will be placed over the biopsy site for protection.  You may remove the gauze bandage the next day.  The thin strips of tape or steri-strips placed over the biopsy site will loosen and will come off on their own in about a week.  If they are still in place after a week, you may gently peel them off.
  • You may shower the next morning.  Do not soak in a bath or pool for 48 hours. 

 

3. Signs of infection:  If any of these symptoms occur, call the Breast Center or your doctor.

  • Temperature over 100.4  F for two readings taken 4 hours apart
  • Significant swelling, firmness, or warmth
  • Increased redness
  • Pus around the site
  • Heavy bleeding from the site

 

4. Comfort: You may have some discomfort and bruising.  It should go away in about a week.  If you need something for discomfort, you may take Tylenol  for the first 24 hours, if you do not have liver problems.  You may resume taking  aspirin or ibuprofen 24 hours after the biopsy (if no signs of bleeding) or as directed by your doctor.

 

5. Activity:  Avoid vigorous arm movements and heavy lifting for the first 24 hours.  You may resume your normal routine the next day or as directed by your doctor.

 

6. Blood Thinners:  If you take Coumadin®, aspirin, or other blood thinners, you may resume these 24 hours after the biopsy (if no signs of bleeding) or as directed by your doctor.
